The Forest

Translated from the Finnish by Ritva Poom

The forest comes into the rooms, birds return to the trees.
Someone is near: a horse precious to me, coat shimmering.
I touch it and it is gone
taking with it the forest, the birds, the room
and the rider, with features of water.
